WOMEN'S CRICKET
LEADING TEAM DEFEATED As had been anticipated, a close contest took place when the two leading elevens met in the senior competition of the Auckland Women's Cricket Association on Saturday. A.L.H.A. (B) showed its superiority by again defeating the leaders, A.L.H.A. (A) on the first innings, but the A team's successes earlier in the season enable it. to maintain its positioii by two points. Prominent in the batting were Miss T. Johns, whose score of 81 saved the B team from defeat, and Misses T. Peterson and I. Adams, who readied the thirties. For A.L.H.A. (A), good performances were given by Mrs. L. Askew (211 and Miss A. Rogers, a young player who drives with great force. Smart fielding was witnessed throughout the match. Miss K. Bilkev and Miss T. Peterson being responsible for some spectacular catches. A six-point win over Suburbs 1$ gave Suburbs A a commanding lead for championship honours in the junior grade. Miss M. Trapani, who has batted consistently this season, was unlucky to be dismissed when seven runs short of the century. .Miss B. Browne returned the best bowling figures with the good-double of three for 8 and five for 13. Killarua fielded a strong team against A.L.H.A., which won on the first innings by a margin of 18 runs. Miss G. Gibb, of Killarua. showed bowling ability, her tricky deliveries and consistent length accounting for six wickets for 39 runs. A confident display was given by Miss M. Yelash, who made top score of 35 for A.L.H.A.
