MANY CONVICTIONS
AUSTRALIAN CRIMINAL ARREST AT ROTORUA ILLEGALLY ON RACECOURSE [by TELEGRAPH—owx correspondent] ROTORUA, Tuesday "1 his man is an Australian criminal with a record, and his long list of convictions shows that he is a parasite who lives by stealing from other people," stated Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson, in the Police Court, when an Australian* John Hobert Moore, was charged with being idle and disorderly, in that he had insufficient visible means of support, and also that, being .a person prohibited from being on a racecourse,* he "attended the Rotorua race meeting at Arawa Park last Saturday.
Detective-Sergeant Thompson read a list of previous convictions for theft and other offences in Australia, France and New Zealand. Ho stated that .Moore-had only come out of prison last December, following an offence at Tiniaru. It was in iiis favour that he had been quite frank about not having lawful means of support, while he had also admitted that he knew lie should not be on a racecourse, and that he had made some money betting round the country. The Bench convicted and discharged .Moore on the second.charge and convicted and ordered him to come up for sentence within six months, if called upon, on the first, a condition beit;» that he leave the Dominion witliin four weeks.
