HORTICULTURE EXPERT

DEATH OF MR. E. ALLAN SERVICE ON PUBLIC BODIES [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Tuesday The death occurred to-day at his home at Buckland, Pukekohe, of Mr. Ebenezer Allan, aged 76. Mr. Allan was born at Broughty Ferry, Scotland, and learned the trade of seedsman in his native country. At the age of about !'22 he came to New Zealand and worked in the Taupo. Katikati and Tauranga districts. He later acquired land at Huapai and was there for a period. He th->n went to Mangere, where he managed a seed farm. Thirty-five years ago, he removed to Buckland, where he continued as a seedsman and nurseryman.

Mr. Allan developed his experience over the years and became one of the Dominoin's leading horticulturists. He was president of the Pukekohe Horticultural Society and also judged at many shows, In 1928 and 1929 he was president of the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Ho was chairman of the Pukekohe East Road Board prior to its inclusion in the Franklin County Council. He twice contested the Hauraki seat in Parliament, standing as a United candidate. He served for. two years as president of the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Allan is survived by his wile and three daughters. There are four grandchildren.
