PLANTING OF TREES
AUCKLAND TO ROTOHUA PRACTICAL DIFFICULTIES ffrom our own correspondent! EtAMILTON, Tuesday A proposal to plant trees along the main highway between Auckland and Rotorua in connection with the centennial celebrations met with opposition from the Waikato County Council to-day. The proposal was received Irom the Hamilton Borough Council, writing on behalf of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Committee. The chairman, Mr. J. A. Sampson, said that with tb? power lines along the road between Hamilton and Cambridge the idea wa,s hardly a practical onr. Mr. P. 12. Dingle: In my opinion the id<>a is sill v. The engineer, Mr. A. A. Woodward, said the planting of trees would add to the difficulties of those propertyowners who mowed the frontages of their farms, as many did Other members suggested that the removal of the power lines to inside the properties would create a nuisance and would add t" the danger to stock. It was suggested that it would be better to plant the Drees inside the properties. It was resolved to reply stating that it was not considered the proposal was a practical one iin country districts where the road frontages were occupied by power poles and lines'.
