CADETS FOR DUNTROON
FIVE FROM DOMINION MILITARY CO-OPERATION BEARING IMPRESSES MINISTER [by TKLKGRArn —OWN COTI RESPONDENT*] WELLINGTON, Friday Five New Zealand cadets have been selected to attend a three years' course at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Australia, with a view to qualifying as officers in the New Zealand military forces. In announcing the names in an interview this evening the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, said they were being sent in accordance with tlio Government s policy of close co-operation with Australia in defence matters.
"I had the. opportunity," said Mr. Jones, "of seeing the successful applicants for cadetships after they had completed a six days' course at the Army School, Trentham, and was most impressed with tlicir bearing. They are all of a fine stamp, with scholastic and athletic qualifications above the average, and, having decided to take up the Army as a profession, will, J feel sure, maintain the hiyh standard set in the past by New Zealand cadets at Duntroon. During their secondary school training all five were outstanding members of their respective cadet corps. The cadets selected are:—F. B. Chennells, Christehurch, who attended Christ's College; J. B. McGregor, Dunedin, Otago Boys' High School and King's High School; J. A. McPherson, Dunedin, Otago Boys' High School; B. F. Sccats, Gisborne, Marist Brothers' School and Gisborne High School; and ]?. .T. H. Webb, Nelson College.
