Jan. ig The British Council has decided to offer four post-graduate scholarships, tenable for one year, commencing in October, 1939. to selected graduates of universities in the Dominion of Canada. the Commonwealth of Australia, the Dominion of Xew Zealand, and the Union oi South Africa.

These scholarships will be. open to those who desire to carry on in the United Kingdom courses of study or re. sraic»i in subjects which are of social, economic, or political value, and which may be regarded as of Dominion, intraImperial, or international importance. The value, of each scholarship will be £3OO. The method of payment will be dependent upon the nature of : the course of study or research followed by each scholar. An advance will, if necessary, be made toward the cost of tha return passage to the United Kingdom. The scholarships are open to men and women. Candidates to be eligible must: (a) Be British subjects normally resident in Canada. Australia; New Zealand, South Africa, Newfoundland or Southern Rhodesia. (b) Have passed their 21st birthday on October 1. 1939. (c) Have obtained a degree at a recognised Dominion university. (d) Produce evidence that their qualifications are such as to enable them to undertake studies or research work of value in the particular subject which they submit for approval.. Particulars of the conditions ofitw ■scholarships and forms of application may be obtained from the Administrative Head of the University in New Zealand. Candidates must submit their applications on the prescribed form to the Administrative Head of their own university by April I, 1939. Arrangements are being made for i preliminary selection to be carried out in each Dominion. The final award wut be made by a selection committee se» up by the British Council in London.-
