HORTICULTURAL INSTHUTE [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION"] ) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday The New Zealand Institute of lTnrtf* culture to-day bestowed upon Mr. John Scott Thomson, honorary botanist of the Ota go Museum, the highbt honour it is able to grant to New Zealand horticulturists and naturalists, when it elected him an honorary Fellow of Institute, the only election for• 19-39. The conference also elected as at honorary overseas member of the Institute Professor Carl J. F. Scottsberg, director of the Botanical Gardens, Gothenburg, Sweden, a recent visitor to New Zealand. Mr. Thomson delivered the Banks lecture in 1935 and gained : the Loder Cup award in 1936. He has written many publications and has at present several hi progress, and has done sitensive research work. The Cockayne Gold Medal, offered annually for the best student in the diploma examination of the Institute, was awarded to F. J. E. Jollie, of New Plymouth.
