£BOO,OOO LYTTELTON PLAN BUILDING NEW BREAKWATERS [by telegraph—owx correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday A proposal for enlarging Lyttelton Harbour was submitted to tho Lyttelton Harbour Board by its engineer, Mr. P. W. Fryer. The adoption of the proposal made by Mr. Fryer would allow the area of the harbour to lie increased from about 105 acres to 310 acres. The report was referred without discussion to the .harbour improvement committee, the board deciding also to visit the port to obtain a clear picture ot tho alterations suggested. Mr. Fryer estimated tho cost of dredging a new channel and turning basin at £167,000, and of building new breakwaters at £030,000.
