MATAMATA CLUB

TO-MORROW'S EVENTS PROSPECTS DISCUSSED ELEVEN lIOBSES IN CUP CHANCES OF BLACK MUSK BY ARCHER The country racing circuit in Auckland will be resumed with the Matamata Club's meeting to-morrow, when the useful fields engaged should provide interesting contests. The rain during the past week has been very beneficial to the track, which should be in firstclass order unless the weather becomes wet again. The betting will bo under the win and place system and the first raco is timed to start at 12.5 p.m. A special train will leave Auckland at 6.55 a.m. on tho day of the races and leave the racecourse on tho return at 6.10 p.m. Tho Matamata Cup has attracted a useful field of 11, and tho issue appears open. Two who appear nicely placed are the recent Thames winners Black Musk and To Hai, who are in the pink of condition and should run prominently. Do Friend should not be out of it if ho repeats his Takapuna Cup form, and Gay Rose, who ran her best race for some time in the Ralph Handicap at Ellcrslie on Monday, would only require to repeat her best to make it very difficult for tho others. Miss Appellant Improved Lack of recent racing may be against Kcna, but he is a stjlid cos-fl tomer when fit,' Scotland should be more forward than when he raced last and is a good performer when fife. Miss Appellant, who is much improved, and Day Wind are likely to run solid races, and creditable efforts may come from Parquet and Forest Acre. Star Artist has no recent form and has shown her best over shorter distances. Some who may command respect are Black Musk, Te Hai and Gav Rose. The easing or tho ground as a result of rain has been helpful to Maori Song, and a repetition of the form he displayed in finishing second to Royal! Bachelbr at Ellerslie on Monday should make him very difficult to beat in the j Waharoa Handicap. Tooley Street, who | has been unlucky in his latest races, should give a good account of himself. Tosh and Galileo have reached favourable positions in the handicaps and would only require to return to form to be early winners. Royal Dance is also smart when at his best, and Valimeen is a speedy filly who showed great promise last season. • Popular fancies may be Maori Song, Tooley Street and Valimeen. The Okoroire Handicap

The field for the Okoroire Handicap includes several improvers and it should be a good betting race. Palmint is one of the best stayers in the field and he might perform well fresh. Town Section is a recent winner, and Ureklaw is a solid customer who should take beating. Philemup is handily placed, and others who may have to" be reckoned with are Nuipapa, Raceline, jion<* Span and Mio Fratollo. Some who may be in demand are Ureklaw, Town Section and Philemup.
