ERADICATING RAGWORT

TIME TO ATTACK WEED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent} OPOTIKI, Thursday During a discussion on the eradication of ragwort at the monthly meeting of tho Opotiki Borough Council, Mr. T. G. Johnston said it was not fenerally known that once seed pods ad formed on ragwort they would ripen even if the plant was pulled up. Ragwort and parsnip were the only two plants that would ripeu the seed 3 in this way. It was essential to attack tho ragwort plants before flowering. At the present time many people wait until the plants flower before digging or pulling up those that are not otherwise treated with sodium chlorate, and in this way tho seeds mature on the ground and the weed is spread.
