LEVY ON WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL VOICES PROTEST [from our own correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Monday Objection to a proposed levy of £750 on the county as a contribution to the maintenance of sports grounds within the Hamilton borough was voiced at a meeting of the Waipa County Council. In the opinion of Mr. D. B. Livingstone the council should strenously oppose the scheme, as it benefited Hamilton and no other town. He did not seo why the ratepayers of the Waipa county should bo called upon to pay for sporting facilities in Hamilton, when they had other expenses to meet. "My sympathies are not altogether with Hamilton," said the chairman, Mr. S. C. Macky, who explained, however, that as far as Hamilton was concerned country people would benefit by witnessing important sporting fixtures in the large stadium which it was proposed to build. Mr. Macky added that the county could be levied on domain land, and it might be in the council's interest to have representation on the board.
