OBITUARY
MRS. ANTOINETTE REID A resident of Auckland for 45 years, Mrs. Antoinette fteid. wife of Mr. J. T. Reid, of Esplanade Road, Mount Eden, died yesterday, in her SGth year. Mrs. Reid, whose maiden name was Lehry, was born in Leipzig, and was married there in 1875 to Mr. Reid, who had left his home at Wick, in the north of Scotland, to study German. For some time Mr. Reid resided at Ham burn as agent for firms exporting to the Continent. Later he joined the stall of the John o' Groats Journal, a paper founded at Wick by his father, and was appointed German vice-Consul for Caithness and Stitherlandshirc. In ( 1893, on account of a in health, he left with his family for New Zealand, and for many years, until his retirement, wns in the paper import trade in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Reid. who celebrated their diamond wedding in May, 1935, had six sons and four daughters, all of whom supvive. There are 23 grandchildren. MISS W. L. BOYS-SMITH £BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, Sunday Advice has been received of the death of Miss Winifred L. Bovs-Smith at Milford-on-Sea. England. Although Miss Boys-Smith lived in Dunedin tor only 10 years, her name is not likely to be forgotten, for she left behind her a lasting memorial in the form of home science courses at the Otago University'. Miss Boys-Smith graduated at Girton College, Cambridge, and was later on the staff of Cheltenham Ladies' College, remaining there for some years. ]n 1910 she came to Now Zealand to inaugurate the Home Science Chair at the University of Otago. Sh<? continued her work until 1920, when, after a brief interlude, she returned to England. MRS. D. ELLISON [BY TELEGRAPH —rRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Sunday The death occurred last week at Otakou of Mrs. Olivia Ellison, wife of Mr. David Ellison, aged 58. She was a grand-daughter of Knretai, one of the principal chiefs of Otago when the European settlement wns established. A tangi was held and Mrs. Ellison was buried at the Otakou Cemetery. There was a large gathering of Maori and pakeha mourners.
