MUSEUM VISITORS
A POPULAR CENTRE HOLIDAY ATTENDANCES The Auckland War Memorial Museum continues to bo a popular place of attraction for visitors during the holidays, especially for those who have come to the city from a distance. During the six days of lust week, including Friday, when a large number of passengers from the Orford was present, the number totalled 1249, but this is much smaller than the figure for the corresponding week of last year, when Christmas Day was included. This week the attendances have increased greatly, and already in the first four days about 3000 visitors have been recorded. In the five days of the corresponding week of last year there was 5336 visitors. The year's total of visitors was reported to be over 131,000 about 10 days ago, and * obviously the final figure for 1938 will be much below that of last year, when over 180,000 were recorded. The building was opened in 1929; and by far the largest annual attendance came in the following year, when the museum had over 241,000 visitors. Since then the annual attendance has generally been in the neighbourhood of 150,000.
