"SNOW WHITE" SEASON
PRESENTATION TO-NIGHT A picture which has been longawaited by theatre patrons in Auckland will be screened at the Civic Theatre to-night, when "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" will commence a season with a gala preniioi'e performance at eight o'clock. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Galway and the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis, ami Lady Davis will he present at this performance. Costing £250.000 and taking over two years to produce, this picture is a brilliant tribute to the work of Walt Disney and his assistants. What was but fairyland fantasy has been transformed into a living story, combining romance, pathos, suspense and humour. The story, familiar to all who have read fairy tales in their youth, has been faithfully adhered to and retains all the old-world charm of Grimm's fable. Seldom hits there been such a beautiful leading lady as Snow White, who will delight audiences by her bright singing, as well as by her charming personality. Instead of treating the dwarfs as a unit, as in the original story, each has been made a definite person with an appropriate name. The seven dwarfs have been instilled with all the charm and comic touches so definitely associated with Disney's characters. But it is the denizens of the wood which almost "steal" the picture from Snow White and her dwarfs. The birds are seen assisting in the baking of an apple pie and thev frantically attempt to warn Snow White flf the approach of her stepmother, the villainous queen. It is <> picture which will long lie remembered in the annals of the screen and should be classed among the greatest productions. -
