FARM MOTOR TRUCKS

REGISTRATION BURDEN REMOVAL QUESTION RAISED [by telegraph—own .correspondent] TE AROHA, Wednesday The possibility of eliminating the registration charge on farmers' trucks was discussed at a meeting of the Piako County Council. Several members criticised the levy as an unfair imposition which should never have been introduced. The chairman, Mr. W. C. Kennedy, said the position of granting relief was aggravated by the fact that Piako dr«>w its full share of the proceeds from the heavy traffic pool. If it was decided to maka any concessions to the local farmers, then he fully expected that the other counties in the pool would desire an explanation. Mr. Stark: It is not legally necessary for us to collect the fees, and no summons need be issued without the consent of the local body concerned.' It was decided to seek definite information on the point from the Minister of Transport.
