COLD WITH SOME HAIL RAIN IN MOST DISTRICTS* The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —A rather deep depression is now passing eastward off the Dominion. An anti-cyclone of slight intensity covers south-eastern Australia and is moving on to the western Tasman Sea. Tha forecast is for north-westerly to westerly winds at first over t|ic northern and north-eastern portiofi of the North Island,* but otherwise southwesterlies to southerlies, moderate to strong and rising in places to gale force. Seas becoming rather rough to rough generally. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong southerly winds and rough seas, but conditions later moderating. The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast with rain at times in most districts, some heavy fails being" probable about Cook Strait. Thunder and hail in places. Temperatures cold. An improvement is expected later from the nvst. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST COOL AND CHANGEABLE The Government meteorologist issutd to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Strong west to, south-west winds. The weather is likely to be cool and changeable, Avith passing showers. Seas rough ou the west - coast, rathtr rough on the east coast.

YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The day was fine with a cloudy sky, A fresh wind from the west blew hard at times. The maximum temperature was 74 degrees and the minimum G4 degrees. Barometric pressure fell considerably during the day, but rone in the evening. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.66 in, Midnight Monday .. .. 28.801n, Wellington.—The weather was overcast and raining* in the morning with some improvement in the afternoon. There was a liyht breeze from the south. Temperatures . were cool, the maximum being 55.1 degrees. At 3.H0 p.m. the barometer read 29.359 in. Christchurch. —Intermittent showers, with one heavy downpour in the morning-, fell throughout the day. A licht south-westerly wind blew in the afternoon, the morning being calm. The maximum temperature was 53.1 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.40 in. Dunedin. —The day was hue but dull, and the temperature did not rise above 56 degrees.
