BIOLOGY AWARD
SINCLAIR SCHOLARSHIP GRAMMAR PUPIL'S SUCCESS A pupil of the Auckland Grammar School, Roger Eric Hutton, of 15 Wai;riki Road, Mount Eden, has been awarded the Sinclair Scholarship for the encouragement of the study of biology. The scholarship, which is open to competition by pupils throughout the Dominion, has an annual value of £BO and is tenable for three years at Auckland University College. Three entries wore .received for the scholarship this year—one from Palmerston North and the remaining two from Auckland. A special examination was recently held by the university. The Sinclair and the Gillies scholarships are granted in alternate years. The lattbr scholarship is awarded for the encouragement of the study of chemistry and physics. Both scholarships were founded in 1884 by the late Mr. Justice Gillies, a former Judge of the Supreme Court. The Sinclair Scholarship was founded in memory of Dr. Andrew Sinclair, an uncle of the late Mrs. Gillies, and the Gillies Scholarship in memory of Mr. Justice Gillies' wife.
