EXTENSIVE LEAKS FOUND £28,000 REQUISITION SOUGHT J[b7 TELEGRAPH —OWN coeeespondent] TE KUITI. Wednesday A works committee recommendation drawing attention to the seriousness of the condition of the Te Kuiti water supply and urging that the Board of Health bo asked why no reply was received to the council's July letter asking when a requisition would be forwarded caused a sharp division of opinion at a meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council. After the water scheme loan proposals were turned down, the Board of Health committee sat in Te Kuiti and later the council xeceived a letter stating that a requisition would _bo issued to perform work costing £28,743, thus, increasing the rate by 4d. No requisition has yet been received, nor, apart from the installation of a chlorinator, has any action been taken. The borough engineer, Mr. B. J. Drake, reported that as the result of extensive leaks in the system it would be impossible to supply even moderately high levels services by small diameter pipes during the dry weather. The recommendation was adopted after much discussion, by five votes to four.
