NORTH SHORE WATER
COMMISSION ADVOCATED QUESTION OF CITY SUPPLY With the prospects of the North Shore boroughs obtaining water from the city changed by the decision of the City Council to supply tho Hobsonville and Whenuapai air bases, tho appointment of a Royal Commission to investigate the question of a future source of supply was advocated by the Takapuna Borough Council last night. It had originally been intended to discuss tho position at a conference of the boroughs, with the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, Mr. J. W. A. Heenan, presiding, but it was contended that tha changed circumstances nullified this course. Tho Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, said it had not been possible for the City Council to defer action in supplying tho air bases, and, if tho North Shore boroughs wanted tho city suppb > would havo to make application on different terms later. As a result it seemed useless to bring Mr. Heenan to Auckland when there was only the Wairau scheme to consider, lo this project the Takapuna borough would never consent. ,• The opinion was expressed that sat sfiiction would be obtained only by the setting up of a Royal Commission to examine possible sources of supply, and it was decided to ask the other Isorth Shore boroughs to join with lakapuna in requesting this procedure. It was also agreed to advise Mr. Heenan of tho changed conditions now applying.
