NEW APPOINTMENTS OTHER POSTS ANNOUNCED Intimation of the appointment of the Venerable Archdeacon Mac Murray as archdeacon emeritus from the beginning of the new year was received last night from Archbishop Averill, Primate of New Zealand. For a time Archdeacon Mac Murray will also continue to act as vicar-general. Notice was also received of the appointment of the "Venerable Archdeacon H. A. Hawkins, formerly Archdeacon of Waimate, to be Archdeacon of Auckland, the appointment to be operative from January 1.

The archbishop stated last night that the Auckland archdeaconry is shortly to be divided into two archdeaconries, to be known as the Archdeaconry of Auckland and the Archdeaconry of Wnitemata. No appointment would be made at present to the Archdeaconry of Waitemata, which would include the parishes on the North Shore and those on the Auckland side adjacent to the harbour. Archdeacon Hawkins would act as archdeacon of the original Auckland archdeaconry until it was definitely divided. The Rev. Percy Houghton, vicar of St. Mark's, Remuera, has been appointed examining chaplain to the archbishop and has also been appointed an honorary canon of St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. W. E. Connolly, vicar of Waiuku, has been appointed vioar of Howick in succession to Archdeacon Hawkins.
