HARBOUR THEFTS

BOAT OWNERS SUFFEE RAIDS ON*PLEASURE CRAFT A LAUNCH PATROL WANTED Thieves are again active among Auckland's fleet of pleasure craft, and owners of launches and yachts report losses ranging from sundry stores to cameras, binoculars and radio sets. In each case cabins have been broken into as the vessels lay at their moorings. The problem has disturbed owners for several years, and there is a strong feeling among them that it is time something was done to protect tho fleet A heavy loser is Mr. Alexander Harvey, jun., owner of the new launch Valsan. A radio set, two cameras, a pair of binoculars and other goods, of a total value of £IOO, were stolen from his vessel as she lay off the premises of the lloyal Akarana Yacht Club. The auxiliary yacht AoteA at Mechanics' Bay has also been visited by thieves, and a pair of binoculars, a portable gramophone and a number of records stolen. The owner of the yacht, Mr. A. T. Grandison, has been troubled with thieves before. Goods were stolen recently from the schooner yacht Morewa, owned by the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis, and from the launch Kenya, tho owner of which is Mr. L. Heard. Representatives of yachting organisations believe that it is time some action was taken by the Government in the form of providing a police launch patrol.
