VALUABLE SAND BED BIG AUSTRALIAN FIELD ' DEVELOPMENT PROPOSED " i CANBERRA. Dec. 7 The Minister of the Interior, Mr. J. McEwan/ announced in the House of Representatives last evening that the CorimonweuLth Oil Advisory Committee is convinced that thei'o exists in tho Lakes "Entrance district,, South Gippsland, Victoria, a very valuable bed of oil sand of considerable magnitude, probably capable of being commercially exploited. . • «_ Drilling has been proceeding in that district for some years, from which oil was produced, justifying further tests, which the Government intended to authorise. It was estimated that there existed a bed of oil sand of an area, of at least eight square miles, and a thickness of 20 to 40ft., with a»total oil content of not less than 150,000,000 gallons.
