COLONIAL' APPOINTMENTS
An English point of view on the method of making colonial appointments was given prominence in the lowing extract from tho New Zba£a>*d Hehald of December 6, 18SS: ? "At a dinner at the St. George s Club Lord Carnarvon said it was to tne greatest advantage of the colonies tna they should leave the Crown iimrammelled in the appointment of Jfcoyeruors. He thought at the sameltime that the colonies should;have a lfljrge voice. in the , discussions of Imperial matters, and hoped they would ere long be represented by a judicial committee in the Privy .Council. The colonies now enjoyed self-government to the uttermost possible limits, beyond «hic system was incapable of extension.
