YACHTING CONTEST

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HITCH IN ARRANGEMENT ■[ ATTITUDE OF QUEENSLAND SYDNEY. Nov. 30 Doubts as to whether the 18ft. sailing championship can be contested at Auckland next February, were expressed at Ipjt night's meeting of the New South Wales 18-Footers' Sailing League, owing to the Brisbane Club objecting. The ground of the objection was that a clause in the race conditions prescribes that the championship shall be sailed at intervals of not less than two years in the State which last won the contest. It was decided to reopen the matter with the Queensland Club in an endeavour to induce Queensland to waive its objection, as arrangements had been already made by Sydney competitors to make the trip to Auckland in February. A message from Wellington published in the Herald on November 1-5, stated that four 18-footers, including the present world champion, Taree, would compete in the 18-foot world champion yacht race at Auckland in February of next year. The present holder of the trophy, Mr. W. A. SuahilL of Sydney, agreed to allow races at Auckland to be for the world championship. The trophy was brought to New Zealand by the Port Tauranga, which arrived at Wellington on November 14. Mr. G. M. Demies, of Auckland, visited Sydney last month tr. make final arrangements with the Sydney Sailing League for the contest on the \\ alternate. It was'clearly understood by Mr. Dennes that the event cou'd only take place in Auckland if all the clubs were agreeable. He is in communication with the Queensland Club on the subject and is hopeful that its objection will be waived.
