VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND LIKELIHOOD OF INVITATION INFORMATION TO BE SOUGHT i [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Tuesday Information is to be sought" from the American Athletic Union as to tho prospects of American athletes visiting New Zealand in 1940, following a decision made by the council of tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, at its annual meeting to-night. A communication from the English Amateur Athletic Association confirmed tho cabled advice already received that the boprd had declined with regret the New Zealand association's invitation for British athletes to tour tho Dominion in 1940. The difficulty, it was stated, was that the period would be close to that of the Olympic Games. The secretary, Mr. H. McCormick, reported that there was no definito reply from any other country. An invitation wa3 to have been considered by the Canadian authorities this month. Venues and dates for the various national championships were adopted as follows: —New Zealand track and field championships: 1939, March 10 and 11, at Napier: 1940, at Wellington. Women's and junior championships: March 25, 1939, at Auckland. Cross-country championships: 1939, in Hawke's Bay. Remits from the Dominion harrier conference were the subject of a report by a sub-committee of the council. It was decided to indicate tho council's approval of marathon championships in the main centrea, the decision to hold a national marathon championship having already been made on the subcommittee's recommendation.

It was decided to name May 31 as the latest time for the centre holding the national cross-country championships to fix the date. In reply to the Auckland suggestion that junior athletes b9 prevented from competing in tho national senior championships, the council decided to adhere to its former decision that they be left free to do so.

Affiliation was granted to the Royal New Zealand Air Force (Wigram) Amateur Athletic Club, and reinstatement was granted to W. J. Potter, of Matamata.
