NOTED ENGLISH PREACHER MR. BRUCE A TRUSTEE L (Received November 27, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 26 Tho High Commissioner for. Australia, Mr. S. M. Bruce, has been included in the six trustees appointed to administer tho "Dick Sheppaird Memorial Fund" for promoting works in which the deceased Dr. Shepp&rd yras interested. ' ' ' / Dr. ; Hugh Richard ("Dick") Lawrio Shbppard, who died on October 31,, 1937, was successively vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Dean of Cantorbury and Canon and Precantor of St. Paul's. He was a philanthropist as well as a popular preacher. 'A Church Fellowship he started was a great boon to friendless young people who had gone to London to work. "Dick" Shoppard ncted also as a chaplain to the forces -in France until his health broko down. His services at St. Martin's were broadcast regularly and ho became known to thousands as tho "Wireless Parson." Although he was a High Churchman, his pulpit was always open to preachers of other denominations. A devoted social worker, Dr. Shop* Eard initiated the Winter Distress eague, which did excellent service for family men in need of work by its employment schemes. In 1921 he was lecturer on pastoral theology and Select Preacher at Cambridge. He wait also honorary secretary of the Life and Liberty Movement.
