GIFT OF A HOUSE
TH ERESI AN GIRLS' CLUB AID FOR POOR CHILDREN A valuable gift has been received by the Theresian Club, a group of Sydney business girls, who devote their leisure to caring for children of the crowded industrial areas of the city and suburbs. Mrs. M. Spooner, of Sydney, who has been interested in their work for some time, has presented the club with a holiday homo set in pleasant surroundings at Padstow Park, where children from the city who are in need of a holiday and special care may bo sent for varying periods. Situated on the heights of George's River, in 15 acres of bushland, among gum and wattle trees, with the river winding at the foot of the grounds, the homo :is built 011 modern lines, with a sleeping porch. The Theresian Club, which was founded in 1918 by Sister Mary Theresa, of the Carmelite Order, is composed of business girls who devote their leisure to the welfare of children in poor circumstances. They number 120, and have branches in several of the suburbs with their headquarters at Carmelita House, a hostel for business girls. Their work, which is of an entirely constructive character, includes looking after the children's spiritual, . educational and physical welfare, as well as recreational activities. The members are dependent entirely on their own efforts for raising funds/and, with the added responsibility of maintaining the home at Padstow Park, they are now making an appeal to the public.
