NEXT PRESIDENT

•MR. ROOSEVELT'S CHOICE •MR. HARRY HOPKINS DEMOCRAT LEADERS OBJECT (Received November 24, 11.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 24 Tho, Washington correspondent of the Kew York Herald Tribune says that, after a conference with Mr. James J. Farley, chairman of the Democratic Convention, Democrat leaders from 2.L Eastern and Southern States went away with the impression that Mr. Roosevelt's current choice for his successor at the White House is Mr. Harry Hopkins, head of the Works. Progress Administration. They said he would be nominated "only over our dead bodies." Objections to Mr. Hopkins were: — He is ah out-and-out New Dealer, who is supposed to have aroused the enmity of many types of business men, and alienated tho farmers due to difficulties over farm labour, and made the middle classes distrustful, due to his identification with tho concept of lavish spending."
