KIWI AND CHICK
DISCOVERY BY WORKMEN BIRDS FOUND IN BURROW INJURED MALE'S RESENTMENT [by telegraph—own correspondent] HASTINGS. Wednesday A male kiwi and chick wore discovered in a 2ft. deep burrow by workmen between Eskdale and Te Pohue yesterday. The parent bird was slightly injured, and it is possible that it had been worried in some manner. When approached by the workmen the bird showed its resentment in no uncertain manner. The chick was dark in colour and about the size of a teacup. • ' . This is the second occasion in a short period that a kiwii has been discovered under similar circumstances. The 'other bird was found recently on the property of Mr. J. P. Turnbull, at Kaiwaka. '<l •' 1
