INTERESTS DISCUSSED COUNCIL RESOLUTIONS [BY TELEGRAPH —rRF.SS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Tuesday A meeting of the New Zealand Primaiy and Auxiliary Industries Producers' Council was held in Wellington this morning. Fourteen delegates attended and the president, Mr. W. J. Poison, M.P., presided. Resolutions passed are to be sent to the _ Prime Minister, together with an intimation that the council would be prepared to meet him if he desired to disciVss the matters concerned with them. A resolution was carried expressing grave anxiety regarding the position which is developing in financial and economic operations of the Dominion, as indicated by. the rapidly tailing sterling funds, the proportion of reserve to liabilities of the Reserve Rank, falling returns for and reducing quantities of primary products exported. "These movements and developments," the resolution stated, "coupled with heavy increases in costs and general expenditure, are leading to adverse balances nationally and individually, and in consequence of this a great deal of hardship must ultimately be inflicted on all sections." It was decided to call upon the Government to appoint a Royal Commission at the earliest possible date to inquire into conditions on the waterfront. The continued shortage of labour on farms was referred to, and the meeting resolved to urge the Government to consider the desirability of meeting the situation by some modification of the public works policy. In connection with a suggestion that a meeting should be held between employers and employees to consider the provisions of the recent drivers' award, it was decided that a protest should be made "objecting most strongly to any suggestion of a subsequent conferem*"between the parties following the publication ot an award ul the Arbiira tion Court."
