HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES
METHOD OF DISTRIBUTION MOUNT EDEN DISSATISFIED Dissatisfaction with the present method of allocating heavy traffic licence fees was expressed at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last night, when correspondence on the subject from other local bodies was received. It was considered that Mount Eden received an unfair apportionment, compared with smaller local bodies. The Mayor, Mr. R. J. Mills, said that iu the latest distribution the borough of Takapuna had received about £2OO more than Mount Eden, a more populous borough. One of the troubles was that the figures on which the allocation was based were out of date, as they were for the year 1931-32. If that were remedied the borough would appear in a more favourable light. Mr. A. C. Johns said he could not see why fees should not bo allocated on a basis of traffic carried instead of on the length of road and maintenance involved, as at present. This view was supported by other members of the council. The Mayor pointed out that the City Council and the One Tree Hill Borough Council were also dissatisfied with the present method of distributing the fees The council directed the town clerk, Air. A. D. Jack, to prepare a report outlining the council's case for. submission to a forthcoming conference of metropolitan bodies, with a request that the report be brought to the notice of the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple.
