TRANSPORT CONTROL
[GOVERNMENT'S REGULATIONS COUNCIL FEARS MONOPOLY The opinion that the Government's Regulations in regard to transport tended to create monopolies and to eliminate the small operators was expressed last night at the Ellerslio Borough Council meeting. Advice was received from the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, that representations had been made to i ft regarding town-carrying licences. « Had been stated that the number of licences was beii.g increased to a level frnich made it impossible for those en--Baged in the business to secure a reasonable standard of living. The Government was anxious to avoid that situand requested tbe council to cooperate by refraining from granting •urther licences except where justified meet a genuine expansion in business.
