THE WAIMARAMA
SHIP'S MAIDEN VOYAGE ARRIVAL IN PORT TO-DAY A MODERN CARGO VESSEL The latest addition to the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's fleet of cargo motor-ships, the Waimarama, will reach Auckland early this afternoon from Liverpool, via Panama, on her maiden voyage and will proceed to the Mobuihi anchorage to discharge explosives before berthing at a city wharf. The Waimarama, of 11,300 tons gross, has made an excellent outward journey of 29 days. The new motor-ship was launched in May from the Belfast yards of Harland and Wolff, Limited. Described as an improved Waiwera type, she is generally similar to the motor-ships Waiwera, Waipawa and Wairangi, but is faster, having a mean average speed of 20 knots on her trials. The Waimarama and a sister-ship under construction at Belfast are the first of the company's fleet to have double-acting engines. Twelve passengers, in eight single and two double cabins, are carried by the Waimarama, and her public rooms consist of a dining saloon, smokeroom and lounge. Quarters for the crew are in advance of the recent Board of Trade regulations. They are accommodated amidships and aft in two-berth cabins. Tho motor-ship is equipped with the latest devices for navigation and for efficiency in control and cargo working. Nearly a quarter of her refrigerated cargo 'space has been specially fitted for tho carriage of chilled beef. Sho iB under the command of Captain J. Avern, formerly of tho motor-ship Coptic, and the officers are: —Chief, Mr. R. Pearcesecond, Mr. A. J. Galvin; third, Mr. M. Newton; fourth, Mr. J. Wildsmith. The chief engineer is Mr. J. S.
