COASTAL TRADER
JHE AWANUI COMPLETED FIRST TRIP TO-NIGHT For many years well known at Auckland as tho Northern Company's passenger steamer Daphne, tho motorvessel Awanui, reconstructed for A. G. Frankham, Limited, will leave on her first trip to Awanui this evening. She will serve tho company's northern coast trade with the ; motor-vessels Tiri and Coronation. After seven years of idleness, the past three of which were Bpent in reconstruction, the Awanui has been practically rebuilt for cargo carriage. The vessel's steam engines have been replaced by powerful Diesel units developing 240 horse-power. In the refitting tho vessel was stripped practically to the hull, but the fine lines have not been lost. Tho Awanui is a strongly built ship which will be a valuable addition to Auckand's fleet of coastal traders. The ship moved yesterday from Western Viaduct to Central Wharf to complete fitting, and she will receive adjustments at the compass dolphin this morning. Tho Awanui will be commanded, in iho meantime,, by Captain J. Teixeira, Coronation, which has been withdrawn for survey.
