TAMAKI CLUB'S EVENTS TEAMS' RACE CANCELLED CAPSIZE OF THREE BOATS The races .sot down for derision by the Taniiiki Yacht Club on Saturday afternoon were postponed owing to very unfavourable weather conditions. A hard south-westerly wind, accompanied by a rough sea, prevailed throughout the day and although a number of boats arrived at the clubhouse, it was found impossible to carry out any of the events. Two boats, Mawhiti and Maranita, capsized on their way to the clubhouse, while .1 third, Hawk, overturned as she was waiting for the start of the M and \ teams' contest. The weather conditions delayed Ihe arrival of sufficient era ft to take part in the contest at the appointed hour, but eventually ten boats were accounted for. Class M was represented by Manene, Manoa, Manaia and Maroro, and class V by Shamrock, Vaalelc. ITawk, Surprise and Paroro. A short course was arranged and several of the boats went to (lie line with three reefs down. While waiting for the late-comers to put in further reefs, Hawk capsized and Manaia carried away her tiller and had to lower her sail. It was then decided to postpone the race and the competitors were informed of (ho decision. Invader was the only boat ready at U p.m. to lake part in the T and Y teams' contest and the raco was declared off. Both events will be held later in Ihe season. 1 CORNWELL CUP TRIAL POSTPONED The first of a series of trial races to select tho crew to represent Auckland in the lf>;i9 contest for the Cornwell Cup for Z class boats, was started off Bayswater on Saturday afternoon, but was called off afler two boats, Betty and Water Beetle, had capsized in it hard westerly breeze. Tho comi petitors were Te Jloa, Lyla, ftanoni. Te Utu. i Benny, Te Uira, Swish, Tawaki, Nanette, ! l'ere, Betty and Water Beetle. From an ! excellent start Betty led the fleet to the , mark off Northcote, and setting her spini naker, capsized half-way to the Starting line. Water Beetle overturned just after making 1 the turn at Xorthcote. The I raco will be resailed next Saturday, starting off tho Western Reclamation at 2 p.m. | WAKATERE BOATING CLUB OPENING OF SEASON i The Wakaterc Boating Club opened its ! season on Saturday afternoon with a race for its new Frostbite class of I Ift (iin sailing dinghies. The race, the first prize for which was the Leighton-Ilill Cup. started and finished off Xarrow Xeck Beach. Devonport, and was sailed in a hard south-westerly breeze. Tho winner was Mr. J. Brooke's Taukiri. The competitors were Taukiri. Karepo, , Jaibee, Tiki, Tawai and Kiwi. The boats crossed (lie line in the order named and 011 the first round Tawai led Taukiri. In the second round Taukiri took charge and was first home. The rate started at 3.10 p.m. The finishing times were:—Taukiri, .'ill 13m ; Kiwi, .'ill 13m lis; Tawai, 3h 'lsm; Jaibee. ;<h 50m '.'OS. Karepo and Tiki retired. The result was Taukiri (J. Brooke), 1: Kiwi (X. Wing), '2; Tawai (J. Hunt). 3. The cup was presented to the winner in the clubhouse by the patron, Mr. ,7. Hislon. who thanked Mr. Tlill for his gift. The officials in charge of the racing were Messrs. G. S. Miller. 11. Taylor and R. Shippard. Afternoon tea was provided b.v the ladies' committee. HERNE BAY CLUB The Heme Bay Junior Yacht Club held a race for its Silver Fern one-design class on Saturday afternoon, starting and finishing off the Ponsonb.v jetty. The rare was sailed in a hard westerly breeze and. although the conditions were rather severe for small boat racing, there were 110 capsizes, four out of the six competitors completing the course. Kandy Kid crossed the line first at the | fall of the last flag, closely followed by Electra and Silver Fern. Kandy Kid maintained her lend on the first round, but later was passed by Klectra. Before reaching the finishing line, however. Kandy Kid regained the lead and Rhythm overhauled Klectra. The race started at 3.20 p.m. The finishing times were;—Kandy Kid dm). 11l 2ftni 255; Rhythm dm), lh 20m 50s: F.lectra (3m), lh 03m 30s; Silver Fern (2Hm). 11l 28m. POINT CHEVALIER CLUB The Point Chevalier Sailing Club held a general handicap yesterday afternoon, starting and finishing off the clubhouse Six boats started in a fresh south-westerlv breeze, but only three completed the course.
