GOLF TOUBNAMENT CHRISTCHURCH RACING WEEK VARIETY OF SPECIAL FEATURES Play and players in the New Zealand open golf championship, which was held last week at Balmaceweu and won by the young South African professional Bobby Locke, have a prominent place in the current issue of The Weekly News, which is on sale to-day. There are numerous pictures of Dunedin's picturesque course, showing the large gallery and some of the players, and in addition there is a full account of the features of an exciting contest. The social side, of the Christchurch racing week is dealt with in this number, and also from Canterbury are pictures of the 76th annual show, which was a pronounced success. Other subjects treated pictorially are the Woodford House reunion, sceneß of devastation in Central Otago as a result of floods, activities of British troops in Palestine, and many other items of interest from different parts of the Dominion and abroad. Details of an English scheme by which pupils are taught to fly for as little as £6 are given in an article by L. L. White. Other subjects of special articles are memories of the Dennis Gunn murder trial, recalled by work on the moffcrn highway in Auckland which was the scene of the crime; "Politicians and Their Jobs," Men Against the Mufti," which deals with the problem of Palestine; a further episode in the life of Neville Chamberlain; two short stories; and a serial chapter by Ajme Meredith. In the sporting pages Jack Mills writes an entertaining article on early New Zealand cricket tours of Australia. "Canterbury Should Win the Wilding Shield" is the title of this week's tennis feature by a prominent New Zealand player. An innovation which should prove of value is . lhe Baseball Corner," m which advice on the new game in this country is given bv Mr R. O. Blackwell, a graduate of the Royal Military College Canada, and a qualified baseball coach. Pro pects for coming race meetings are discussed by Surveyor.
