RIFLE SHOOTING
MILITARY MEETING CHAMPIONSHIP FOR CADETS THREE COMPETITORS TIE The first, half of the Auckland military rifle meeting, which comprised cadet matches at 25 yards with .22 and .303 rifles, and Lewis and Vickers machine-guns on the open range, was completed in good time under ideal conditions last Saturday. Entries in tho cadet matches and Lewis gun teams showed a substantial increase on previous years, the cadet teams and Vickers guns being about the same. The programme was run without a hitch and the standard of shooting on the whole was high, the Lewis gun results being the best shown at Penrose for many years. The cadet championship resulted in a tie between Sergeant R. Davison, Sergeant A. F. Tucker and Corporal J. E. Rhodes, with an aggregate of 178 each, the first timo on record that a tie has occurred. Tho first Lewis gun match resulted in 8i tie between teams representing H.M.S. Achilles and B Company of tho Ist Auckland Regiment, with 14 plates out of 15. In the shootoff both teams secured all I heir plates, and tho match was awarded to the navy, which expended fewer rounds of ammunition than the territorials.
