JEWS' TERROR
COMING REPRISALS DR. VON RATH DIES VIOLENT NAZI CROWDS SYNAGOGUE BURNED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received November 10, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 10 The death of Dr. von Rath, a secretary at the German Embassy in Paris, who was shot by a young Polish Jew on Monday, occurred yesterday. The French Government is deeply shocked, and the President, M. Lebrun, the Prime Minister, M. Daladier, and the Foreign Minister, M. Bonnet, immediately expressed their sorrow to the German Ambassador, Count von Welczeck. The French Charge d'Affaires in Berlin repeated Hb Government's regret.
The body of Dr. von Rath is lying in state at the German Embassy before being taken to Germany. Jews are crowding the synagogues throughout Paris praying for the safety of their co-religionists in Germany who, it is feared, will suffer terrible reprisals. Apart from German criticism, local critics are attacking the French Government for its lack of control of undesirable foreigners. Isolation of Jews Herr Hitler, says a message from Berlin, sent a telegram of condolence to Dr. von Rath's parents. All wireless stations will observe a two minutes' silence as a tribute. The ban on Jewish organisations and publications leaves the Jews completely isolated. Travel agencies are being stormed by hundreds anxious to escape from the coming terror. Demonstrators shouting: "Down with the Jewel" forced the offices of a French tourist agency to close down two hours before the normal time. People suspected of being Jews, who were buying tickets, were hooted. The police apologised to the agency, explaining that the anger was not directed against France. An official spokesman said: "Dr. von Rath's death does not alter our position, but strengthens our indignation. Naturally the Government's proposed measures will not benefit the Jews." Outbreaks in Munich
Anti-Jewish disturbances broke out in Munich early this morning. The windows of Jewish shops were smashed and a number were set on fire. The demonstrators set fire to the synagogue, and the fire brigade is trying to prevent its spreading to the adjacent buildings. The windows of every Jewish shop in the Freidrichstrasse were smashed. Herr Hitler's "Old Fighters," wearing their 1923 uniforms, instigated the disturbances. Several of the shops wore looted, and the wrecking was watched by enthusiastic crowds. Herr Hitler and other Nazi leaders and old party members joined in the annual commemorative march along the route of the 1923 putsch in Munich. The utmost precautions were taken, double rows of police and Storm Troopers lining the route. The public were not allowed on the sidewalks, and Storm Troopers were stationed at every window. _______
