CRICKET SEASON
1 SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP CLOSE FINISHES EXPECTED f grafiweden encounter Close finishes should be witnessed v hen the third series of games j n the senior championship of the Auckland Cricket Association is finalised to-mor-TO xr. A keen struggle should result in the principal fixture on No. 3 wicket at Eden Park between Eden, last year's champions, and Grafton. Eden made the fairly good total of 190 in its first innings, but it is questionable whether this score will be large enough to ensure a victory. Grafton started badly by losing two valuable wickets for 27 runs, but it has some solid batsmen to come. parnell. having scored 230 against Y.M.C.A., is in a sound position, the latter having lost two, wickets for 40. However, V. Scott is likely to savo his side from defeat if he can get someone to stay with him North Shoro faces a difficult proposition' in the same against Ponsonby-Bal-moral at Dovonport. The latter compiled the fine total of 208 and, although North Shore has made a cood start with <l3 for no wickets, the homo team should find great difficulty in overhauling its opponent's score. Middlemore was dismissed cheaply for 90 at Papatoetoe and University replied with two wiclcets for 49. Lower grade competitions will bo continued. Following are the teams:— PARNELL Third Grade. —A. Connell. H. Connell, W. J Sandman, E. Jtulson, N. Halcombe. S. Jerram, M. Salas, K. Chalmers, E. AlcCord, W. Duncan,. R. SUBURBAN MATCHES SECOND SERIES TO-MORROW The second series of matches in the first round of the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association's senior grade championship will be commenced at the Domain tomorrow, when three games will be played. Although pride of place on No. 2 wicket has been allotted to R.V. and Brixton, there will be a lot of interest in the meeting of Ponsonby and Manukau on .No. 1 Wi The" teams in the principal game have shown good form, particularly Brixton, which batted well against Ponsonby last Saturday. However. R.V.'s bowling strength may decide the issue. Ponsonby showed really good form in its first match and should take the points from Mannkau, although the latter has on several occasions played its best cricket against- Ponsonby. On No. 3 wicket. Green Lane should defeat Dilworth Old senior grade B teams will play a aeries of two-day matches, and the, junior grade competitions will also be continued.
