There is a credit of £437 in the profit and loss account. With a credit of £3603 in the previous year, £3867 remains to be carried forward, after providing £172 for depreciation and reserve.
After failure in prompt deliveries of plant, the new mill is now in operation. Preliminary adjustments, combined with initial difficulties, held up regular returns, which havo not como up to expectations, although it is expected that these will improve from now on. Considerable expenditure has been entailed without adequate return. Development work has been restricted and expenses have been a heavy drain on the finances. An overdraft of £2500 has been obtained, but further finance will be necessary. Although Results on the No. 2 level did not disclose the quantity of good ore anticipated, the No. 4 level disclosed. a rise .at 1079 ft. showing.24in. of ore over one ounce in value. Further work is held up until ventilation is improved. A very extensive body of medium low grade ore has been disclosed in No. 7 level, where the reef is wide and cheaply worked. A large tonnage has been mined and paddocked. The mine manager has reported that the cost of treatment, with the mill working full time, will be less than 15s a ton, which was originally estimated, and the directors anticipate that results will show profitable returns, especially when ore in the No. 4 level can be sent to the mill. _ The amount paid in gold duty during the year was £1421, making a total of £8143 since operations commenced, which considerably exceeds dividends declared, which totalled £6884. The retiring directors, Messrsr. G. S. Poole and P. M. Myers, are available for re-election.
