NOVICE PACERS

LARGE THAMES MELDS OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED WALL , STREET, WORTHY SONG BY ABAYDOS Tho Thames Trotting Club lias two events for novico pacers on the programme on Saturday and there is no scarcity of runners in each race. At tho Auckland meetings held this season Tommy McElwyn, Stargum, Militia and Silk Lady have, left the class, and, while their promotion strengthens the noxt grade, it has not appreciably weakened tho novice ranks, as so many have displayed form almost equal to theirs.

Wall Street showed consistent form last season, and, although sho looked well when produced on Labour Day, a mishap ruined her prospects. She had a couple of runs at tho Iloyal Show. Worthy Song earned the place penalty, but, after her good displays at the matinee meeting, she has prospects of securing a portion of the prizemoney in the near future. Were he reliable at the start, Marcus would have been out of tho class, as he has more speed, than the average novice. A. W. Broughton is persevering with him. Winhisvvay is gaining a reputation for consistency and lie is improving with age. Bronze King Improved

While he has taken time to develop solidness, Bronze King has shown a deal of improvement in his last two starts and there is reason to believe that ho will not be long in graduating to tho improvers' section.

Scottish Bard has been unfortunate in his last; two races and is not likely to lose many supporters, who will judge .him on his sound displays in the winter, and particularly in extending Lady Potts at Epsom. Peter Smith showed a glimpse of his better form at Hutt Park. He has been left in the 3.1 Hauraki Handicap, and, should he succeed in the Ngatea Handicap, he may take beating 'in his later, start v

Although Tagua has not reproduced his southern form, he looked improved at the last meeting, but was badly checked when horses fell in front of him. He claims two engagements on Saturday. Hinewaa has not raced since she paid nearly half a century for a place at Cambridge, when Meadow King, as a pacer, recorded his sensational victory, after falling at the start. Hinewaa, who is by Peterwah, has raced at both gaits. In spite of his fine speed, Trauan appears to lack the necessary stamina to finish off his efforts. He has <'a tendency, like his half-brother Tangaroa, to pull hard in the early part of his races.

Change for Here Oro Hero Oro was not well placed early, but ran on solidly at Epsom. She is now in F. J. Smith's stable and may extend the Takanini reinsman's record of firstup winners. Kewpie's Jewel displayed usefulness in her outing last month. She possesses the family speed and her future prospects are bright. One from whom improvement may be expected early is Grand Dame. The Jack Potts mare had her chance marred by accident oil' Labour Day, but she has gone along the right way. Parrish Girl will be making her first appearance this season. Tumble has furnished into a solid type and has improved both in speed and staying power. Hottentot showed up in a better light at his last start. A little more solidness which should come from racing, will assist him. His stable mate Exporter may quickly develop into a useful pacer. Northern Smile has not reached the expectations engendered by her track displays, but sho has not had many opportunities. Don Walla has had only one? race. . ! Harlow, although racing out of her class on Labour Day, made a \cry creditable showing. She is in the 3.43 Ngatea Handicap. Our Jewel has not raced, but is promising. , Loyal Betty, in spite of her splendid condition, has not been , successful. Loyal Direct ought to bo benefited by last month's racing. j JOCKEY'S £IOOO REWARD HANDSOME GIFT FOR SHEAN MELBOURNE, Nov. 2 F. Shean, who rodo Catalogue in the Melbourne Cup, received a present of £IOOO from the winner's connections. The original plan for offering Avenger for sale for stud purposes has been changed. He was withdrawn from sale to bo prepared for racing in the autumn. Allunga will probably be retired at the end of tho spring campaign. T ' T. Webster is returning from India and arrives in Melbourne this week. He has recovered from tho effects of _a fall' and hopes to resume riding hero immediately.
