DRAMA LEAGUE MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS The third annual meeting of the Rotorua Area of the British Drama League was held in the Women's Club rooms on Thursday night. In his opening remarks tin' president, Dr. J. D. C. Duncan, commented on the excellent standard of the work done bv those teams which competed in the recent festival. He also made particular mention of the work done for drama in Rotorua by Miss M. Mactier, who had been honorary secretary since the league's inception in Rotorua. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Dr. J. D. C. Duncan; vicepresidents, Mr. J. Banks and Mr. P. Angus; secretary, Mr. J. Keane; treasurer, Mr. W. McKenna; auditor, Mr. K. Jlnddle; committee, Mrs. A. E. Moore, Miss J. Pearce, Miss G. Sloane, Mr. F. K. McNattv, Mr. E. Barnes and Mr. S. A. Cooper. The committee members of the Rotorua Travel Club were responsible for a very enjoyable afternoon tea party held in the Blue Bath tearooms on Thursday to entertain Miss J. Leadbetter. of London. During the afternoon M iss Leadbetter spoke on her visit to Tibet and the customs of the people living there. She also described the British system of government in India. Mrs. J. Banks presided.
Mrs. E. C. Evans, of Ranolf Avenue, has returned to Rotorua after a visit to Svdnev. Mrs. H. Farren, of Tutanekai Street, has returned from a short visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Sirs. E. T. Harris, of Amohau Street, who has been visiting Patea as the guest of Mrs. L. Honeyfield, has returned home. Miss E. Lewis, of Stanley Bay, Auckland, was a visitor to Rotorua recently and was the guest of Mrs. A. Crawford, of Toko Street.
Miss Betty Urquhart and Miss Verna Wallace, of Auckland, were the guests of Mrs. G. Urquhart, of Sophia Street, at the week-end. Mitts Gwen Jones, of Ranolf Avenue, who has been visiting Sydney, has returned to Rotorua. The Misses Hilda and Evelyn Weightman. of Putaruru, who have been the guests of Mrs. A. F. Moncur, of Fenton Street, have returned home. M iss 0. Jury, of Rotorua. wlm has been 011 a motor tour of the North Island, returned home at the week-end. Miss Jean Greig, of Wellington, is spending a holiday in Rotorua and is staying with her mother, Mrs. I). HL Greig. Mrs. G. H. French, of Rotorua, who has just returned to London from a trip to the Continent, will sail from Tilbury 011 November 5 for Australia, where she will spend Christmas, returning to New Zealand in January.
