Over the Dusky Meadows

Once upon an old time, Many years ago, There were three dappled horses, And their tails were white as snow. Their manes were bla<& as ebony, And streamed across the skies, Beneath their satin lashes, There were rubies in their eyes. On these horses, side and side, Three old witches used to ride, Ooer the mistu moorlands wide, Over the dusky meadows Went, Crying haloo with knees all bent. Night after night, in the purple glotm.

Over an J under the Waxing moon. Shone their jewels and glistened 'heir shoon. As over the dusky moorlands Went, Three old witches, With knees all bent. ■ And the clippity-clop of the hoofs was plain. As they beat on the roof of the sly like rain. And the stars got caught in the flying mane J, As over the dusky moorlands went. Three old witches, knees all bent. Till Weary and haggard and needful of rest. Oat of the sunrise into the west, Plunged they on thejr ponies, one and one— And only their stooped backi 'hone in the son. —Nancy I. Harvey. .
