MORRINSVILLE VALUES KEEN DEMAND FOR BEEF COWS IN MILK MAKE TO £ll [from ouk own correspondent] MORRINSVILLE, Friday Prices for Jersey cows and heifers showed a marked improvement at the weekly Morrinyville stock sale to-day. There was a smaller yarding of cattle than usual and only a small bench of buyers was present. A small offering of store and weaner pigs was penned, all being sold at prices in advance of last week's sale. The auctioneers report as follows: The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited.—A full entry of cattle came forward, including an average yarding of beef. The market was steady, with late rates fairly well maintained. Beef sales were on account Mr. Hugh McDonald, of Kiwitahi, a pen of medium-prime Hereford heifers, £8 12s 6d; heavy fat cows made to £9 7s. A full yarding of store and boner cows met with steady demand, a total clearance being effected at late rates. Several pens of yearling heifers were offered, and while these met with better competition, values in several instances did not reach vendors' reserves. Two-year-old heifers likewise were not in good demand. Yearling Jersey bulls met with a quieter sale, values not reaching previous Quotations. Medium prime Hereford heifers, to £8 12s 6d; heavy fat cows, £8 16s to £9 7s; medium fat cows and heifers, £7 12s 6d to £8 7s 0d; lighter, £6 10s to £6 15s; killable. £4 5s to £5 7s Od; heavy store cows, £3 12s 0d to £4 ss; lighter, £2 18s to £3 Ob; heavy boners, £2 to £2 18s; lighter, £1 10s to £1 18s; cull cows, from 16s; grade Jersey bulls,, to £0; grade yearling Shorthorn bulls, to £5 2s; two-year-old Jersey heifers, £7 16s to £8 58; medium quality yearling Jersey heifers, £3 15s to £4 12s Od. Pigs: There was a small entry of light baconers and porkers, which met with fair competition, values being slightly lower than Frankton rates. Light baconers, £2 IDs to £3 2s; medium porkers, £2 8s to £2 lis; best stores, 28s to 20s Od; smaller, 26s Od to 20s. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited:—Sheep: A small entry of fat ewes and hoggets sold at recent quotations. No ox beef or first quality cow beef was penned. The yarding of beef comprised fat. Jersey cows and heifers. Competition was keen and prices showed, an improvement. Boner cows were yarded in usual numbers and sold at schedule rates. Potter and service bulls were also in demand at recent rates. An average yarding of dairy cattle came forward to a small attendance, many clients being interested in the Royal Show being held on the same day. A herd of dairy cows on account of Mr. Chas. McDonald, of Te Kuiti, all in milk, changed hands at satisfactory figures, chiefly from £7 15s to £ll. Close-up dairy heifera found a market at slightly lower values, while backward heifers were not sought. A small entry of dairy cows also showed a declme. in values. The quality of the whole offering was not up to the standard of recent sales. An average yarding of fat pigs came forward to a full bench of buyers, with prices on a par with late rates. Store and weaner pigs were penned in exceptionally small numbers, and a total clearance was effected in this section tit prices, in advance of last week's sale. Williams, of Turihaua Station, to-day, 20 beasts being withdrawn.
