DOGS ON DISPLAY

SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE BEOORD ENTRIES RECEIVED MANY IMPORTED ANIMALS LADY GALWAVS INTEREST JfcY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL REPORTER]'., HAMILTON. Friday Dogs from all parts of the Dominion taade up a record entry in the Royal New Zealand Dog Show, which opened to-day under the supervision of the Hamilton Kennel Club. A large number of entries, including Potillons, Great Danes and bloodhounds, were on exhibition for the first time, and their appearance added interest to a show which for method of presentation and general appeal is one of the most successful yet to have been staged in New Zealand. Among the dogs shown was a largo number of recent importations from England, practically all of which gained awards in the champion • classes. The improved standard of New Zealand and colonial-bred dogs was " favourably commented upon by the judges and visitors. Thjj lay-out of the show would compare favourably with anything of tho kind yet seen in the Dominion, and greatly enhanced its value as a public spectacle. During the day Dr. Bennett, of the Otago Medical School, demonstrated a method of treating dogs for the prevention of hydatids. Permanent benching had been installed, and the latest show ring, with a concrete judging stand, aided the work of tho judges, Dr. A. C. McKillop, of Christc&nrch, who judged sporting breeds, and Mr. A. G. Betts, of Nelson, who was in charge of terriers, toys and non-sporting dogs. Her Excellency Lady Galway, visited the show during the afternoon and took a keen interest in the dogs shown in all sections, particularly the Labradors.
