RECORD SALES OFFBET EVER-MOUNTING COSTS [BY TKMT.BAPH —OWN COKRKSrONDENT] DUNEDIN, Friday Although sales were the highest yet recorded i» the history of the company and gross profits were the second highest, increased expenditure in every direction lad brought down the net profit to a sum which was £lO6 less than the jrevious year, said Mr. P. L. Halsted, chairman of directors of the Drapery and General Importing Company of New Zealand, Limited, at the annual nee ting this afternoon. The company ha! made satisfactory progress during the year. "I havo o'ery confidence that this present year will again show an increase in salej, but I would caution you not to look ftr much, if any, increase in net added the chairman. "Our prices ire kept as low as 'possible in order to meet all competition, and expenses are mounting all the time. The presnt strength of the company is due t< the conservative financial policy of (he past, and I have no doubt as to tjfc wisdom of that policy being recognise! and maintained in the future." ' I
The chairman.expressed his confidence that shareholders would share the directors' satisfiction at being able to maintain the ordinary dividend at 6 per cent and at the same time add £IO,OOO to reserve and increase the carry forward b? £I3OO.
BURNS, PRILP AND CO. STEADY DIVIDEND RATE The directors of Burns, Philp and Company, Limited Sydney, have declared an interim dividend for the halfyear ended September 30 the rat* l of 10 per cent per annum, being equal to Is a share on the fully-paid shares and 6d a share on the contributing shares. Payment will be made on Isovomber 15. The rat* is unchanged.
