RAID BY POLICE
INTRUDER CAPTURED MAN WITH FACE MASKED WAY OF ESCAPE BLOCKED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*} DUNEDIN, Friday Two car-loads of detectives, some of them armed, made a raid on tho premises of Wilson, Balk and Company, Limited, merchants, early this evening, and captured a man in a yard at the back of the building. He was promptly arrested and will appear boforo a magistrate in the City Police Court to-morrow morning., The raid, which was carried out by five detectives and two constables in plain clothes from the central station, was made at 8.15 o'clock. A party, led by Detective-Sergeant T. Y. Hall, went to tho premises in Jetty Street and quickly surrounded the building. Detectives Gibson and Brown and actingDetactive McDougall gained entry into the premises from the front. t Evidently disturbed by the noise, the intruder, who had a handkerchief over the lower part of his face, ran out through the back into the yard and endeavoured to escape over a high gate, the top of which was covered with barbed-wire, He was called on to halt by Detective-Sergeant Taylor, who was stationed outside the gate, and Detective Gibson, who was following closely behind tho man, promptly arrested him. He was put into one of the cars and taken to tho central police station. The raid was efficiently carried out, the whole incident being over in a few minutes.
