REUNION PLANS
MOUNT ALBERT SCHOOL CELEBRATIONS NEXT MONTH FOUNDATION 68 YEARS AGO The 68th anniversary of the foundation of the Mount Albert school will be marked by special reunion celebrations at the school from November 10 to 13. The present year has been considered particularly opportune for such a gathering, as the Government has made a grant for a new school and grounds, and the present school will probably be demolished in the near future.
Situated in School Road, Mount Albert, the school has served the district Bince 1870. The original building of one room has been added to at various times, and now there arc eight classrooms, accommodating about 'IBO scholars. Hundreds of people have received their education at the school, and many have had notable careers in New Zealand and abroad. Many Visitors Expected Visitors from far alield are expected at the reunion, which is now being arranged by a large committee of former pupils. Historical data is being proj pared by a special sub-committee, which las in its possession, in addition to other records, the complete minutes of the school committees from 1870 to the present day, with the exception of those for the period between 1905 and 1908. It has been discovered that four generations of at least one family have been pupils at Mount Albert, while three generations of another family have served on the school committee. Full Programme
The celebrations will begin on the evening of Thursday, November 10, when a general reunion will be held in the illuminated school grounds, followed by reunions according to decades in the classrooms. A children's sports gathering and display will be held in Fowlds Park on Friday afternoon. There will be a roll call of past pupils in the school grounds on the Saturday afternoon, and a banquet and social evening will bo held in tho evening. Tho reunion will conclude on Sunday afternoon, November 13, when divine service will be held in the school grounds, and a wreath will be placed on the soldiers' roll of honour.
DIAMOND JUBILEE HELENSVILLE EX-PUPILS The diamond jubilee of the Helensville District High School is to be held during the coming week-end. The original school was a small one-roomed building erected in 1878, but after a few years another site was acquired and a larger school built, which was subsequently enlarged. With the establishment of a secondary department, the name of the school was changed, and a second building erected to accommodate the secondary pupils. This year tho original primary building was replaced by a new one, but the old school is to bo used in the celebrations.
