STRUCK WITH HAMMER
YOUNG WOMAN ATTACKED EARLY-MORNING INCIDENT [by telegraph—own correspondent] TIMARU. Monday A young woman, Miss Rosetta Grace Brown, aged 19, was assaulted by a ninn and struck on the head with a claw hammer near her home in Trafalgar Street about three o clock yes* terday morning. She was badly cut about the head, and was taken to hospital, but last evening she was not considered to be in serious danger. Miss Brown, who is a domestic servant, was walking from Caroline Bay to her home in Trafalgar Street. A short distance from her home she nas intercepted bv a man 011 a travelling in the opposite direction, few minutes later he turned r01 '" and followed her, going on about yards ahead of her. He then got ott his bicycle and spoke to her as sl® passed. - . It is reported that he then s ru her on the head with the claw hammer.. Miss Brown screamed and attrnctett the attention of neighbours, who informed the hospital and the police. IR® man escaped on his bicycle.
