SUMMER CARNIVAL INCREASED NOMINATIONS FORTY-EIGHT IN THE CUP Nominations for the principal events to ln> mi. at tho Auckland Racing Club's Summer. Meeting on December 26 and 28 and January 2 and 3, aggregate 374, compared with 362 last year, rho heaviest decline is in the entries tor the Auckland Cup, which, with -18, has eight nominations fewer than for the 1937 contest, but the extra attention given the weight-tor-age races, the King's Plate and the Clifford Plate and the Nathans' Memorial Handicap, has enabled the club to show a general increase. Now under the charge of H. Nesbit, the Acre-Clover Leaf mare. Pasture, is thriving and is coming to hand in fine style Although a non-winner. Pasture is a speedy galloper at her best and would only need to go on the right way to make her presence felt in novice company.

The two-vear-old Konneta. who leaves for Trentham to-day to fulfil her engagement in the Welleslev Stakes next Thursday, galloped half-a-mile on the No. 2 grass track at Ellerslie yesterday morning. Midden by B. Markwick. she was accompanied by Fidelia (Messervv) and they ran the distance in 19 1-5. Konneta began very smartly and was clear of her companion in the early stages, but at the finish there was little between them. The Buland-, shar filly has gone on the right way since her Welcome Stakes run.
